With the first year of the project over, the TIDE 'handbook for transferability analysis in urban transport and mobility' has been completed and the build-up to the local innovation forums and implementation scenarios for take-up is gaining full momentum. This newsletter also reports on the Cost-Benefit Analysis workshop that took place in Budapest. The city which enters the spotlight this time is Milan. With the planned extension to its road user charging zone and the plan to equip every parking lot with sensors able to control and apply sanctions for infringements, this municipality has clear aspirations to further advance urban transport.Click here to read the second TIDE newsletter!

Read moreFrom 2nd to 3rd July, urban transport professionals from 27 European cities gathered in Gent to discuss how to enhance participation processes in the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP).The workshop was hosted by the City of Gent, one of the most advanced cities in stakeholder involvement and citizen participation. Gent is a partner city in the EU-co-financed project CH4LLENGE, which offers project partner cities and follower cities four in-depth training workshops, each dedicated to one SUMP challenge. This first workshop took a closer look at participation concepts and methods in the SUMP process.With support of the workshop organizer POLIS (Ivo Cré) participants reflected on the status of their SUMP processes and talked about main barriers to progress in SUMP. They shared experiences of different participation approaches tested in their cities. Read moreOn June 24th / 25th 2013, over 70 transport experts from all of Europe followed TRANSFORuM's invitation to its 1st Joint Forum Meeting in Gdansk. Half of the attendees were external stakeholders, including CEOs of leading transport companies, top-level management representatives of authorities as well as policy makers such as Pawel Stelmaszczyk, Head of the Unit Intelligent Transport Systems within DG Move at the European Commission.They all brought their real-world experience in one of the following topics to the discussion: Clean Urban Transport and CO2-free city logistics Shift of road freight to rail and waterborne transport Complete and maintain the European high-speed rail network European multimodal information, management and payment system These are four key goals (no. 1, 3, 4 and 8 respectively) of the 2011 Transport White Paper to whose implementation TRANSFORuM aims to contribute.The event was kick-started with a very informative keynote speech of Prof. Monika Bak [...]
