World Bank’s online course successfully completed

03.03.2014

RC staff member Miriam Lindenau has successfully completed the World Bank’s MOOC “Turn down the heat: Why a 4°C Warmer World Must be Avoided”. The five-week course covered climate projections for the 21st century including droughts, heat waves as well as sea-level rise and the implications on food and water security.

In her final project, Miriam looked at road sector CO2 emissions, how to reduce these and how to initiate behavioural change for more sustainable urban mobility. “The World Bank course illustrated the present and future effects of global warming extremely well and gave lots of thought-provoking impulses. The balance of scientific teaching and collaborative learning was just great and I met many interesting fellow learners from all over the world. Apart from the content taught, the MOOC was also a great source of inspiration to me for setting up and managing an online learning course. In our project CH4LLENGE, I will develop online courses on the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans and collaborative transport planning. I’m very excited to switch roles now from learning to teaching”, Miriam says.Further information: www.coursera.org/course/warmerworld
