Project goal

Passengers want a seamless and predictable journey without barriers and unnecessary delays when changing between types of public transport or between operators, and increasingly, when crossing national borders. Based on the participating project partners’ expertise and experience as well as on related policy documents, the objective of the strategic cluster was to influence future EU policy with respect to promoting seamless transport solutions. Within this framework, the SYNAPTIC partnership also highlighted European best practices which delivered outstanding innovation in the area of seamless and sustainable mobility in Europe.

Results

The cluster intended to impact the content development of the connectivity priority of the then upcoming INTERREG NWE Operational Programme so that in the next programming period there would be a framework for projects that make mobility chains as seamless as possible, from air travel to walking, creating a network of hubs and connections on all levels of scale. Concrete outputs included:

• A Sustainable Mobility Action Plan (S-MAP) for seamless and integrated mobility in Northwest Europe including a concrete vision and examples and policy recommendations
• Concrete project ideas generated from the plan
• A “competence hub“ of innovations in seamless door-to-door mobility
• A series of EU round tables on aspects of seamless mobility
• Policy meetings with decision makers to brief them on mobility needs and innovative solutions
