Modellregion Hannover: Wendepunkte im Verkehr (MoHaWiV)

Region Hannover was chosen to be one of 12 model projects for strengthening public transport in Germany and will receive funding of almost 30 Mio. € over the next 3 years to realize their vision of becoming a model region for sustainable and attractive public transport. The project aims to reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector by building a strong and attractive public transport, building on the “Zehn-Punkte-Programm zur Verkehrswende” of Hannover.

Project goal

The aim of the project is to improve sustainable mobility in peripheral areas and to create an attractive system to shift the modal split of commuter traffic from private cars to public transport. The project is a joint cooperation between Region Hannover, regiobus, üstra and GVH. We as Rupprecht Consult will support the Region Hannover with project management.

The final concept of the Modellregion project foresees 5 sub-projects:

  1. Attractive, flexible and cost-effective on-demand service for the Region Hannover
  2. Intermodal route chains through digitalisation of P+R facilities and development of mobility stations into intelligent and convenient transfer points
  3. Mobility for all - use of digital offers to develop a demand-oriented comfort system for passengers
  4. Public transport post-Corona package to attract and retain customers
  5. Public transport transformation in the real laboratory Hannover Region: knowledge management, communication and data integration

Results

Key component of the measures is the “Zehn-Punkte-Programm zur Verkehrswende” which is created in accordance with the EU climate change programme. Overarching goals are:

  • Fewer trips by private car and an annual increase in public transport. An increase in the share of the environmentally friendly modes of transport (walking, cycling, public transport).
  • Reduced CO2 emissions from passenger transport (through MoHaWiV measures).
  • Provision of real-time information for passengers along the entire travel chain

Role of Rupprecht Consult

Rupprecht Consult supports the region Hanover and steuern lenken bauen GmbH in coordinating the five sub-projects in form of a project control group. We will monitor the project status’ and progresses to ensure a certain quality of the implemented measures and reach the promised project goals.

As part of an overall quality assurance measure, we created a risk management table, which we constantly update throughout the project, to identify upcoming problems at an early stage and identify measures to solve them.

Between the region Hanover and other project partners and the BAG (Federal office for freight transport) we support with communication and reporting.
