Rupprecht Consult hosted a delegation from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and regional authorities for a Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) study visit in Cologne and Leipzig, highlighting Germany's advancements in sustainable urban mobility and fostering valuable discussions and networking opportunities.
Rupprecht Consult recently had the honor of hosting a delegation from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and regional authorities, guided by the German Development Bank (KfW), for a comprehensive study visit focused on Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) in Germany. From September 21 to 29, 2024, the delegation explored Cologne and Leipzig, highlighting Germany's advancements in sustainable urban mobility. The study visit extended throughout the week to include Frankfurt and Berlin.
The visit commenced in Cologne, where our Director, Dr. Wolfgang Backhaus, warmly welcomed the delegation. The agenda featured presentations on public transport electrification and various SUMP projects, led by experts such as Dr. Susanne Böhler-Baedeker and Shreesha Vaidhya. The delegation also engaged with Ms. Friederike Christian from the City of Cologne, who shared insights into the city's engagement and participation process in SUMP development.
A highlight of the Cologne visit was a study tour of the Cologne bus depots, organized by the local Public Transport Operator (KVB). Here, the delegation learned about the transition from diesel to electric buses, including visits to the newly built e-bus depot in Cologne Porz, which houses over 100 e-buses.
In Leipzig, guided by Mr. Stefan Röll, Head of Infrastructure at the Leipzig Public Transport Company (LVB), the delegation explored the city's modern public transport system. The visit included a round trip from the Leipzig main train station, stopping at the public transport technical center Heiterblick for a guided tour of the maintenance facilities. The delegation also experienced the on-demand system Flexa and various modes of public transport, including trains, trams, and e-buses.
Throughout the visit, Rupprecht Consult facilitated numerous discussions and networking opportunities, allowing the Indonesian delegation to gain valuable insights and share their experiences. The visit concluded with a series of tourism activities, providing a well-rounded experience of German culture and hospitality.
Rupprecht Consult is proud to have contributed, along with EGIS, to the success of this study visit. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with international partners to promote sustainable urban mobility solutions.
