The new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan in Arequipa, Peru plans for resilient transport

24.09.2021

Over 50 planners and stakeholders from Arequipa join the first Course on Resilience and Sustainably Mobility Planning.

The city of Arequipa, in the South of Peru is part of the EUROCLIMA+ mobility development programme and currently in the development of their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP). This planning process includes the analysis of existing mobility, the establishment of a vision, objectives and targets for the future and selection of concrete measures and actions for implementation.Another focus, parallel to the development of the plan, is the development of capacities. For this, a set of courses will be held over the next year. The first Course on the topic of sustainable mobility and resilience has just been just completed. Around 50 participants and 7 speakers from latinamerican cities and international institutions attended the sessions. Over 4 modules, the course looked at the interlinkages of mobility planning and resilience in our future cities and presented solutions on how the current and future challenges of the city, especially in regard to mobility, can be tackled within the planning process. Together with our consortium partner Egis and the Municipal Planning Institute (IMPLA), we organsied, hosted and moderated the first course featuring 3 sessions with a range of speakers from Latin American cities, one participatory workshop and a learning programme on our Mobility Academy. The objective of this course is to further develop skills on sustainable mobility planning and foster a dialogue and exchange among all involved planners and stakeholders in the city and beyond, connecting sustainable urban planning communities world wide. You can watch the three first sessions on our YouTube Channel: 1.
