Planning for resilient cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

01.07.2021

On Wednesday 30, we held a webinar on "Covid-19 and SUMP planning for sustainable and resilient cities in times of crisis" with the CIVITAS network for the German-speaking area called CIVINET DSR.

In 2020, there was an estimated loss of 40.000.000.000.000 Euro in the public transport sector due to the drop in passengers rides and necessary adaptations since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic affected the way we move around cities in an unprecedented way. City administrations are forced to address resilience and integrated strategic planning processes. In this webinar, we looked at the intersections between resilience and sustainable mobility planning, discussing the SUMP cycle, learned lessons from the public transport sector and resilience planning in mobility department of the city of Vienna. The webinar was moderated by our colleague Marcel Braun and featured three presentations:
  • Susanne Boehler-Baedeker, team leader of the integrated planning team at Rupprecht Consult and expert in sustainable urban mobility plans
  • Annika Degen, Director of the EU Office at Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen (VDV) and Vice Director of the EU Department at UITP
  • Alexander Scholz from the Mobility Strategies Unit of the city of Vienna.
