The SUMP Guidelines are now available in Japanese

The 2nd edition of the SUMP (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan) Guidelines was made available to cities worldwide in 2019. Meanwhile, many national institutions have been working to translate the SUMP Guidelines into their own language – to make them even easier to use and to establish the concept of SUMPs in their own country.

A Japanese version has now been developed by the Japanese Research Institute of Local Transport, a non-profit think-tank specialising in local and regional transport, with the help of the TU Wien Institute of Transportation "Wien Institute of Transportation". As the COVID-19 pandemic created challenges in the Japanese public transport sector it also led to a growing interest in improving the competencies of local governments in transportation planning and supporting the evolution of public transport management. The translation also raised high interest within the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. With this release, Japanese decision-makers and planners are encouraged to apply the concept of SUMP and establish integrated planning practices.

All current and future translations are available to download as documents from the SUMP Guidelines page on Eltis.
