25.09.2011

MOVE partners organised two outreach workshops to disseminate the research and the lessons of experiences to organisations outside the consortium. The MOVE Outreach Workshop on "Disaster Risk Management and Vulnerability Assessment: EU – Turkey Experiences Exchange" was held on 15-16 September 2011. In Poland, the MOVE outreach workshop was embedded in the meeting of the CHANGES project in Stryszawa on 22 September 2011.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Selcuk University in Konya/Turkey and Rupprecht Consult and gathered about 50 risk management experts from research organisations (Konya, Istanbul, Ankara, Geneva, Porto), government institutions (Ankara, Bolzano), regional and local authorities (Konya, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Ankara, Dortmund) and private sector to exchanges methodologies and experiences in risk management and vulnerability assessment. Many regions of Turkey are exposed to environmental risks and particularly earthquake prone zones in the Istanbul area are of high concern. Researchers from Turkish Universities showed great interest in the methodology and the generic framework for vulnerability assessment which was developed under the MOVE project. The workshop discussed the scientific context of vulnerability assessment, provided practical experiences for addressing disaster risk management and developed ideas for coordinated responses to risk management. It concluded with recommendations for transnational cooperation. The documentation of the workshop is available under the MOVE website: www.move-fp7.eu/index.php
In Poland, the MOVE outreach workshop was embedded in the meeting of the CHANGES project in Stryszawa on 22 September 2011. The Meeting addressed young researchers with the aim to raise their interest in future research on vulnerability assessment.
