LOW-CARB Polish pilots promoted beyond Central Europe

14.05.2020

Exciting discussions around cargo-bikes and e-busses in the first day of Civinet Romania annual conference (online event). Our colleague Ana-Maria Baston was invited to present the e-cargo bike sharing scheme implemented in Krakow and the on-demand e-bus service running in Skawina during the interactive session with participants.

In the context of the annual conference organised online by Civinet Romania on 14 - 15 May 2020, the representatives of LOW-CARB project were invited to present two of their pilot actions related to electromobility. Ana-Maria Baston was delighted to share the experiences gathered by the two Polish city partners Krakow and Skawina who developed a broad mobility policy aiming at enhancing the connectivity and at the same time saving CO2 at the functional urban area level. More than 80 participants from more than 20 cities joined online to discuss e-mobility issues. The discussion around cargo-bikes started from the experience of Romanian municipality of Alba-Iulia who developed recently a city-wide (cargo)-bike-sharing scheme, whereas Krakow’s broad experience in the sharing field led to the recent expansion of their existing service by e-bikes and e-cargo-bikes. 6 new e-cargo-bikes were purchased with the support of Interreg CE programme (LOW-CARB) and are ready to use once pandemic-related restrictions are lifted in the logistics hubs.
In the framework of the active transition of European cities towards electromobility, the Clean Bus Europe Platform, an initiative endorsed by the European Commission and managed by UITP, offers different types of support to cities to realise an efficient and sustainable shift towards a cleaner urban public transport. Many cities seize this opportunity in their mobility policies towards better and cleaner connections among Krakow’s public transport network, for example, was expanded at the functional urban area level by introducing the first on-demand e-bus in the commune of Skawina, thus providing a better and resource-efficient link for commuters and residents.
