Last week, we organised a webinar on Urban Vehicle Access Regulations for the German speaking mobility community and the CIVINET, a network for cities to connect and exchange experiences on sustainable transport.
Regulating vehicle access is necessary to improve air quality, to redistribute public space more evenly and by that eventually improving the liveability and attractiveness of the city.But there are challanges on the road to regulated vehicle access which all cities face and for which cooperation is needed, on the one hand to spread best practice solutions and on the other to improve the exchange and availability of data for further development and enforcement.
For this occasion, Anouchka Strunden from our team introduced the topic and presented our project <link https: www.rupprecht-consult.eu project reveal.html external-link-new-window external link in new>ReVeAL (Regulating Urban Access for Improved Liveability). ReVeAL is a Horizon 2020 project, managed by Rupprecht Consult which gathers and evaluates UVAR (urban vehicle access regulations) measures and experience in implementation from 6 pilot cities.
This set the floor to three experts from the field who presented to the audience their current projects and experience with regulating vehicle access via concrete measures and interinstitutional cooperation:
Lucy Sadler, Consultant on Airquality and UVARs, Sadler Consultant on Enforcing UVAR measures across regional and national boarders
Oliver Spree, Project leader, Mobility Planning City of Bielefeld on Traffic calming in Bielefeld
Thomas Fischer, Head of Road Department, City of Graz on Automised access regulation management: a legislative initiative in Austria
