EUROCLIMA+ Training on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) in Latin America

04.03.2020

In the framework of our EUROCLIMA+ project for Latin America, a SUMP training was led and organised by our colleagues Katy Huaylla and Susanne Böhler-Baedeker with the support of the German Cooperation (GIZ) and carried out in Bogotá, Colombia on 20 - 21 February 2020.

The two-day workshop was aimed at improving the quality of regional SUMP activities in order to facilitate the implementation of sustainable transport measures by providing to city representatives the necessary knowledge and increased capacities to develop and implement high quality SUMPs. The target group was focused on city officials with participation of more than 16 cities from 12 Latin American countries. Topics discussed during the workshop included insights on the preparatory phase for a SUMP, setting up the working structures, stakeholder and citizen participation, political ownership, as well as more technical topics such as data collection and transport modelling. The workshop and presentations provided by urban mobility experts were very well received by 21 participants especially the opportunity for networking and to discuss topics and to share experiences in their local contexts with peers. We hope to keep supporting more activities in the Latin American region to help to the transformation of mobility for the better!
