On 12 October 2016, Eurocities information session on EU funding for Urban Nodes took place in Brussels, in the framework of OPTICITIES Final Event.
The information session provided an overview of funding and financing opportunities for the development of mobility projects in urban nodes, that is cities part of the Trans-European Network (TEN-T). The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is the key EU funding instrument that supports trans- European networks and infrastructures in the sectors of transport, telecommunications and energy. CEF became one of the main sources of funding in relation to the TEN-T investments. Since 2014, some of the CEF calls address the urban nodes i.e. the major cities on the network. In his presentation, Dr. Wolfgang Backhaus, introduced the new 2016 calls for projects and drew some lessons learnt from successful and unsuccessful projects from the previous round of applications (CEF 2014). In addition, he recommended to urban nodes what other sources of financing and opportunities are currently available to them and what support they can receive from the European Commission.
