Representatives from urban nodes, European Commission and experts gathered on the 6th of October 2016 in Brussels to discuss together with consultants the results of the study on improving the efficiency of the transport system in urban nodes of the TEN-T core network, in the “Urban Nodes” final event.
The new TEN-T policy initiated through the 2013 TEN-T regulation and facilitated by the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility), takes a closer look at the “first- and last-mile“ network dimension that relates to urban nodes. Integrating urban nodes became one of the areas which call for particular attention in integrating transport policy issues into further core network corridor development. Ms. Vera Kissler from the TEN-T North Sea-Baltic Corridor gave an overview on the role of urban nodes in the TEN-T. Consultants from Rupprecht Consult, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Panteia presented the main outputs of the study. Representative from Helsinki urban node, Mr. Tapani Touru, Head of transport system planning group, presented the Helsinki region transport system planning. The whole session was moderated by Siegfried Rupprecht, the Director of Rupprecht Consult. A first list of recommendations addressed to urban nodes on how to further improve the identified cost-effective measures and how to replicate those in other European nodes, presented by Dr.-Ing. Susanne Böhler-Baedeker from Rupprecht Consult, served as an input for the final discussion session, during which the European Commission made clear that there will be future opportunities for urban nodes to improve the transport system in their local and regional context.
