SUMP Arequipa technical team presents the urban mobility diagnosis in Arequipa

The technical team that develops the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Arequipa made presentations over the week of Dec 7-10 on the Diagnosis and Analysis of the Mobility of Metropolitan Arequipa during various physical and hybrid meetings to the Mayor of the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, advisors, municipal managers, city council and official members of the Technical Committee "MUNI MUS", the media and the advisory committee for the SUMP "DIALOGUEMUS", and kicked-off the strategic phase of the SUMP with a workshop.

On Dec 7, as part of the participatory process of the elaboration of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Arequipa - PMUS AQP, the technical team that has been elaborating the SUMP Arequipa, made the presentation of the Diagnosis and Analysis of the Mobility of Metropolitan Arequipa to the Mayor of the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, Mg. Omar Candia Aguilar, advisors, municipal managers and official members of the Technical Committee of Sustainable Urban Mobility of Arequipa MUNI MUS; likewise, the activity was attended by the project manager of the French Development Agency - AFD, Heduen Estrella and virtually by the responsible for environment and climate change in the Delegation of the European Union in Peru, Ms. Tatiana Garcia. The presentation consisted of the main findings of the diagnosis on pedestrian mobility, cycling, public transport, private transport, freight transport, regulation, monitoring and control of roads, externalities and cross-cutting aspects for mobility in Arequipa. On December 9, the Diagnosis and Analysis of the Mobility Situation in Arequipa was presented to more than forty members of the advisory committee for the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Arequipa - PMUS AQP, called "DIALOGUEMUS", which is made up of representatives of civil society, academia and the public and private sector, who participated in person and virtually. Likewise, on the same day the technical team made a public presentation through a press conference where local and national media attended showing great interest in the outcomes of the SUMP diagnosis. All the activities were organised by the technical team which develops the SUMP Arequipa as part of the EGIS - RUPPRECHT consortium, which was present in Arequipa during the whole week. It consisted of PhD. Carlos González (head of the PMUS AQP Project and specialist in Public Transport), our colleague Mg. Katy Huaylla (specialist in Sustainable Mobility Planning), Arq. Javier Flores (specialist in Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility) and Eng. Andy Rufino (specialist in Freight Transport) and Junior Saravia (specialist in Road Management). On the next day, December 10th, there was another presentation of the diagnosis findings for the City council members, in order to involve them in the process and receive their comments and suggestions. In the afternoon our colleague Katy Huaylla led the organisation of a vision workshop in order to start the strategic phase and receive input from local actors to construct the vision and key priorities for the city in terms of urban mobility. Key actor groups like municipal officials, academia, NGOs and professional body of architects participated in the workshop.
