Rupprecht Consult presented the Second version of the SUMP Guidelines at the Conference of the Parties, COP25 in Madrid, Spain

12.12.2019

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme instance of decision in the Convention Framework of the United Nations about Climate Change (UNFCCC) and it’s 25th meeting was held in Madrid from 2-13 December 2019.

This is the place where leaders, decision-makers, countries representatives and climate activists join together, discuss and decide the how governments should tackle climate change. Within COP25, the City of Madrid and Madrid public transport operator EMT, organised the workshop “Mobility and climate change: The integrated approach of cities”, with support from the CIVITAS SATELLITE project. It took place on 7 December in the Spanish Pavilion inside the Blue Zone and was attended by more than 50 participants. The workshop presented how cities are tackling the different challenges the transport sector brings along and which planning tools, measures and solutions are being deployed. Highlighting the key role of cities in fighting climate change, Rupprecht Consult’s Katy Huaylla presented the concept of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP), specifically the Second version of the SUMP Guidelines, released just a few weeks ago, and the CIVITAS Initiative. Many cities in Europe and internationally have been applying the SUMP methodology in the last years and have been benefited from an innovative approach for planning that fosters urban change and low carbon mobility through integrated and long-term strategies.
