Mayor of Budapest says "SUNRISE project helped me a lot in my mayoral campaign"

18.01.2021

The current Mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, followed the co-creative process of SUNRISE Action Neighbourhood of Zugló-Törökőr closely over the past years. The project has been part of Karácsony's mayoral campaign, which he talked about recently in an interview.

The neighbourhood Zugló-Törökőr in Budapest has made great strides over the past several years to make the area more pedestrian-friendly, accessible, safe and liveable - especially for the 700 children from the local schools who move through the area every day. Local residents and members of the community were closely involved in this co-creative process to overcome neighbourhood mobility challenges and implement sustainable solutions. They took part in online and offline mapping exercises, thematic walks, workshops and surveys, which have led to the implementation of traffic calming measures, new pedestrian crossings and safer routes to school.Gergely Karácsony recently shared in a video: "The SUNRISE project helped me a lot in my mayoral campaign. The new leadership of the capital is committed to taking forward projects like this. Partly in terms of involving citizens, and partly in terms of creating pedestrian-friendly, green, safe transport."To learn more about SUNRISE's achievements in Zugló-Törökőr, <link https: www.youtube.com external-link-new-window external link in new>check out the full video here.
