Lithuania is already among the leading countries in terms of Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) and is keen to stay at the forefront by fostering collaborative knowledge sharing and aiming at implementation of SUMPs. For this reason, the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications organized a national SUMP conference in Vilnius on 18 October 2023.
It was opened by Dr. Agnė Vaiciukevičiūtė, Deputy-Minister of Ministry of Transport and Communications. The keynote was presented by Susanne Böhler, team leader at Rupprecht Consult about "Lithuanian Case Analysis and Results: Integrated Urban Mobility Planning with SUMP". Among her messages were the results of a recent comprehensive survey among Lithuanian cities along Rupprecht Consult’s SUMP Self-Assessment tool. It allowed us to determine the status quo of SUMP planning and implementation among Lithuanian cities.
The leader of our SOLUTIONS team, Ralf Brand organised two parallel workshop-style afternoon sessions, which were hosted by both Susanne and himself. These sessions explored the following topics and allowed the participants to translate new information for their own professional context; be this their role in a city administration or in a planning consultancy:
SUMP in small and medium sized cities
Neighbourhood-based planning, 15-minute-city and active mobility
Data generation and usage for planning and monitoring / evaluation
Different types of UVAR (including LEZ)
The Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications also shared information about the event on social media.
