On Wednesday 7 July, we held a kick-off workshop for the implementation of the first Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) in China.
The first SUMP in Foshan will be a strategic plan designed to satisfy the mobility needs of people and businesses in Foshan and its surroundings for a better quality of life. It aims at the promotion of low carbon and people-centered mobility and the better integration of urban and transport planning. Commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und nukleare Sicherheit, the SUMP is implemented as pilot project by the China Sustainable Transportation Center (CSTC) together with the city of Foshan and supported by Rupprecht Consult GmbH, the authors of the SUMP Guidelines. The SUMP will be developed on a 287ha large site in Foshan's Changcheng District.
