Our colleague Wolfgang Backhaus held a keynote on our second edition of the guidelines for sustainable urban mobility planning and capacity building at the Busworld Academy in Istanbul last week.
Aside from spreading the word on SUMP and discussing the use of tools and knowledge platforms to be used in the process, we had the opportunity to interchange ideas and see examples of Turkish cities already working along the SUMP guidelines. Inspiring practices were presented and stakeholders took the chance to talk about challenges that cities are confronted with in mobility planning. With the theme of the academy being “sustainable bus systems for smart cities”, a particular focus was set on the integration of clean public bus systems as a central element of sustainably mobility planning.
