Great success of the Urban Nodes webinar

09.12.2016

The webinar addressed to urban nodes was successfully conducted on the 8th of December 2016. The webinar was entitled “How to improve the efficiency of the transport system in urban nodes of the TEN-T core network” and it was scheduled in the context of the study “Improving the efficiency of the transport system in urban nodes of the TEN-T core network”, which was carried out on behalf of DG MOVE in 2015-2016.

The webinar was attended by around 20 professionals belonging to local or regional administrations of urban nodes or of other cities, the transport sector and research from all over Europe. The topic of how to enhance the transport system in urban areas as well as along the core network in the 88 identified urban nodes of Europe was presented. The stepwise methodology on selecting, assessing and selecting the most effective packages of transport measures was presented as the main outcome of the study. After a short introduction into the study and the objectives of the webinar by Bonnie Fenton, (Rupprecht Consult), the presenter Susanne Böhler-Baedeker (Rupprecht Consult), representing the consortium who carried out the study, explained the European context for urban nodes and general recommendations on how to link the urban mobility to the TEN-T planning and vice versa at the local and regional level. Next, Jan Kiel (Panteia BV) gave an introduction to the concept and the application of the step-wise approach, an ex-ante assessment instrument tailored-made for the use of urban nodes when selecting the priority measures connecting the European network with the local urban traffic. The supporting presentations for the webinar are now available for download on this page. In order to get a better understanding on the European context of urban nodes, two additional presentations were put at your disposal by DG MOVE and are part of the presentation package. In addition, all presentations are accessible as resource on the “Urban Nodes” online course. Interested participants can find there much more information on what is the current role of the urban nodes in European context, what funding opportunities are available and they can even test the stepwise methodology in the local context!
