CIVINET DSR Webinar “SUMP & Urban Logistics” on December 17

05.12.2024

The increasing volume of e-commerce and the resulting increase in delivery traffic pose major challenges for all cities. How can cities and logistics companies work together to improve delivery traffic? The EU-funded ULaaDS - Urban Logistics as an on-demand service project provided answers to this question.

During the project period 2020-2024, model solutions were developed and tested in the model cities of Groningen (NL), Mechelen (BE) and Bremen (DE) – in close cooperation between authorities, the logistics industry and other stakeholders. The project examples show the role, but also the current limitations, of microhubs, cargo bikes, parcel boxes, cargo hitching and cooperation models. As a new topic, ULaaDS shows the potential of bike sharing in the context of private micro-logistics – i.e. transport services in private households, whether it be shopping traffic or accompanying trips.

The overarching goal is to relieve traffic congestion and reduce traffic-related pollution and hazards. These are also key objectives of sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMPs) and building blocks of sustainable urban logistics plans (SULPs).

Join our webinar on December 17th:

Dr. Thomas Nobel (Deutsche GVZ Gesellschaft) will give an introduction to the challenges for the logistics industry.

Dr. Susanne Böhler-Baedeker (Rupprecht Consult) will summarize the overall project with its results and the lessons learnt.

Karsten Hülsemann (City of Bremen), Michael Glotz-Richter (gloricon, formerly of the City of Bremen) and Bonnie Fenton (ADFC-Bremen) will present the project components in Bremen and the insights gained there.
