Our colleague Katy Huaylla co-authored a book chapter in the recently published Nectar Book: Transport in Human Scale Cities. The chapter focuses on the implementation process of a metro project from a political economy perspective using a case study in Lima, Peru. This was written on the basis of her master thesis as part of the program MSc Transport and City Planning at University College London (UCL).Katy focused her research on analysing the "challenges to implementing infrastructure projects and the elements that block or drive such implementation process". She was inspired by her working experience in the Metro of Lima and the different planning processes in Lines 1, 2, 3 and 4. Katy highlights that metro projects are, without doubt, very important projects for the city, but many times face several challenges in the implementation process that might delay or block their progress. Therefore her aim was to analyse the specific case of the Metro of Lima to identify such factors, understand the impact and find ways forward for improvement.Along in the book there are many other interesting contributions from well-known scholars on how human scale thinking can create better cities and provide better mobility options for people.
