Achieving climate neutrality requires action that extends beyond city boundaries. Key systems such as mobility, logistics, energy, and industry operate across urban and peri-urban areas, making integrated, territorial approaches essential for a successful climate transition in Europe.
In its first article, the ALTHEA project presents Transition Super Living Labs (TSLLs) as a forward-looking solution to these challenges. TSLLs move beyond isolated pilot projects by fostering collaboration between public authorities, businesses, researchers, and citizens. This approach enables the co-creation and implementation of coordinated, real-world interventions across entire regions.
Through five TSLLs and three Replicators, ALTHEA is strengthening urban–rural cooperation, testing innovative mobility and sustainability solutions in real-life conditions, and supporting the development of Climate City Contracts. These place-based actions are key to scaling climate solutions and ensuring long-term impact across Europe.
By focusing on collaboration, innovation, and territorial integration, ALTHEA contributes to a more inclusive and effective pathway toward climate neutrality.
