The project consists on the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the city of Arequipa (Peru) which aims to analyse the exiting situation of urban mobility, set out the vision, objectives and targets for the future and define adequate measures and actions to achieve those objectives. The project is funded by the EUROCLIMA+ program, supported by the European Union and implemented by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). Our consortium Egis & Rupprecht Consult is in charge of the development of the SUMP using as a reference the SUMP methodology, the eight SUMP principles and SUMP cycle which will be adapted to the specific conditions of the local context.

The project aims to establish a plan for the future of mobility in Arequipa based on the sustainable urban mobility planning principles for the 21 district municipalities of the metropolis, promoting sustainable modal forms of travel, changing the behaviour of citizens to improve the quality of life, ensuring universal accessibility to public transport and promoting the use of new technologies that reduce travel times, incidence of accidents and GHG emissions.
Expected results:
Rupprecht Consult provides strategic and technical advice along the development of the SUMP in Arequipa as the knowledge partner on the SUMP methodology. We support the whole SUMP development supervising and advising each of the phases, steps and products to fit the local conditions and meet international SUMP standards; and having a critical role primarily on the cross-cutting processes (such as the participatory and communication plans, capacity development, inter-institutional cooperation, social and political processes, among others)
