SUMI is a service contract for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport
It provides technical support related to sustainable urban mobility indicators (MOVE/B4/2017-358). The project will help urban areas using the “SMP2.0 Sustainable Mobility Indicators” developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
For Europe to reach its policy goals, cities need to track the impact of their policies through monitoring tools and appropriate common indicator sets. Only this will allow policymakers in urban areas and on the national and European levels to track progress and to develop more effective and fact-based interventions.
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) developed a comprehensive set of 19 sustainable urban mobility indicators with the intention of enabling cities to perform a standardised evaluation of their mobility system and measure the improvements resulting from the implementation of new mobility practices or policies. The WBCSD tool uses the data provided by a city for the set of indicators, recommends solutions and connects them with existing mobility options. The data is used to support decision making and align stakeholders. The first result from tool is a spider chart which should help cities for diagnosis and setting priorities.
