New CIVITAS ELAN document “Citizen Engagement in the Field of Mobility”

The CIVITAS ELAN consortium has published a publication “Citizen Engagement in the Field of Mobility” presenting the work and the lessons learned related to the citizen engagement activities implemented in the CIVITAS ELAN project between 2008 and 2012 in the five partner cities Ljubljana, Gent, Zagreb, Brno and Porto.

In the CIVITAS ELAN project “Putting the citizen first” was at the core of the work, following the common mission statement: “To ‘mobilise’ our citizens by developing with their support clean mobility solutions for vital cities, ensuring health and access for all.”

In the four years of project implementation project partners have identified and described a number of experiences related to the citizen engagement activities implemented within the project which have also been supported by the findings of the evaluation of the citizen engagement activities. Successful practices and drivers that contributed to successful involvement of citizens and stakeholders as well as negative experiences caused by various obstacles have been gathered and are described in the publication.

These lessons can be regarded as recommendations for other players in the fields of sustainable mobility and public participation and will also be applied in the further activities related to citizen engagement in the ELAN cities.
