After 4 years of workshops and project development to improve mobility in 6 pilot cities, we now look at all the results that the Horizon 2020 project has yielded.
The SUNRISE project (Sustainable Urban Neighbourhoods – Research and Implementation Support in Europe) was part of the CIVITAS initiative, a EU funded multi-stakeholder project that put into practice what we call "co-creation", a systematic process of developing urban solutions in constant dialogue with the local residents. The objective of SUNRISE was to explore and test alternative approaches to find sustainable solutions to the most pressing challenges of mobility in the pilot cities. Our office coordinated 10 parties from universities to consultancies specialised in mobility planning to cooperate in a large consortium with the cities of Bremen, Budapest, Malmö, Southend-on-Sea, Thessaloniki and Jerusalem.Through the collaborative planning process of SUNRISE, residents chose measures that include the creation of wider sidewalks and improvement of walkability for all ages, additional and smart bus stops, safe bicycle storage and much more. By putting citizen-centred policymaking at the centre, the project gathered a rich inventory of learned lessons on urban participation processes and co-creation (and calls this conveniently their "SUNBEAMS"). Last month, SUNRISE has officially ended and looks back on 4 successful years of measure planning through participative workshops and stakeholder engagement, expectation measurement, putting equity over equality and a lot of trust building in the complex policy area that urban mobility and development is.We say well done to all the involved project partners and are proud to share the key documents, tools and videos of the project with you:Click <link https: civitas-sunrise.eu mobility-pathfinder pathfinder-too external-link-new-window external link in new>here to check out the SUNRISE Pathfinder Tool, an inventory of all co-creation related information to set up neighbourhood mobility measures.
