Rupprecht Consult, in collaboration with Civitta Strategy & Consulting, BCI – Business Consulting Institute, and TTL PLANNING Romania, has begun work on the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) for Comrat and Soroca (Moldova).
The SUMPs will address sustainable modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, and public transport, as well as parking, traffic safety, environmental and social aspects, and overall public space quality through an integrated approach. The plans will include thorough assessments of current and future trends, a broadly supported vision with strategic goals, and a comprehensive mix of regulatory, promotional, financial, technical, and infrastructural measures.
Developed transparently with stakeholder consultation, the plans will comply with Moldovan legal frameworks and European best practices, incorporating the latest methodologies and strategic guidance from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova.
Rupprecht Consult takes the lead in coordinating the project and managing stakeholder cooperation and communication. This includes organising strategic sessions with the working group. Additionally, RC focuses on key activities such as developing strategic policies, creating a clear mobility vision, and selecting priority measures and projects for inclusion in mobility plans. This also includes supporting the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).
Previously, the project team held kick-off meetings in Comrat and Soroca, hosted by the local municipalities and GIZ Moldova. During these sessions, the consortium of experts outlined the project’s key stages and methodology for creating the SUMPs. They presented an overview of the project timeline, the existing strategic framework, the stakeholder engagement process, and plans for public participation. In both cities, the project team engaged with a committed group of local stakeholders, including the Mayors.
In the coming months, the team will focus on collecting and analysing data on the current urban mobility situation in the municipalities of Soroca and Comrat.
