On 22 February, the first public workshop for the development of a SUMP for Kyiv-Podilskyi district was held successfully. The project is run by a consortium of Dornier Consulting International (lead), A+S Consult and Rupprecht Consult. It is developed in the framework of the project "Integrated Urban Development in Ukraine", implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and financed by the Governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Swiss Confederation.
After kicking off the project in November 2018 in a high-level meeting with the city of Kyiv and the district of Podilskyi, the consortium completed the first SUMP steps. This included an inception report, setup of interdepartmental working structures and analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for mobility.
The workshop on 22 February, which took place in the city administration of Podilskyi district, presented and validated the results of the SWOT analysis. Susanne Böhler from Rupprecht Consult provided an inspirational presentation on international approaches in the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. She highlighted the differences between traditional planning and SUMP, showed examples of existing plans as well as the main SUMP steps. This kicked off the interdepartmental engagement process that will inform SUMP development over the next 8 months. Seeing the active participation of respresentatives from differnet parts of the administration, the workshop was a big success.
