TIDE Transferability Methodology presented during the Livable Cities Symposium in Izmir, Turkey

Bernard Gyergyay, consultant at Rupprecht Consult,  presented the TIDE Transferability Methodology at the Livable Cities Symposium in Izmir, Turkey. The event was co-organized by EMBARQ Turkey and Izmir Development Agency (IZKA). The main theme of the event was "Bikable and Walkable Cities". Over 270 representatives from local administrations and public institutions, experts from development agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders interested in sustainable urban mobility attended. While the event served as an important venue for dissemination of TIDE activities beyond the EU, the topic of effective transfer of innovative transport measures is also important and we hope the TIDE Transferability Methodology can help facilitate the future transfer of innovative urban mobility measures between the EU and Turkey. The proceedings of the event are available here: www.embarqturkiye-yasanabilirsehirler.org/en More information about the TIDE Transferability Methodology are [...]

Rupprecht Consult completes study on BEMPs for the Joint Research Centre

The European Commission is eager to transfer the EMAS concept (Environmental Management and Audit Scheme) from the industry sector, where it originated, to the public sector. To assist public administrations in their effort to improve their achievements in various areas, a series of Sectoral Reference Documents (SRD) is planned, for which the Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) is responsible. Rupprecht Consult was successful to win a service contract with the JRC in May 2014 to contribute seven so called BEMPs about sustainable mobility to this SRD.BEMP stands for “Best Environmental Management Practices” and each such document follows an established structure with the following headings:   Description Achieved environmental benefits Appropriate environmental indicators Cross-media effects Operational data Applicability Economics Driving force for implementation Reference organisations References The seven BEMPs created by Rupprecht Consult are about: Implementing a large [...]

Ralf Brand: Guest lecture at Bahçeşehir University / Istanbul

Ralf Brand gave a guest lecture at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul on April 22nd 2014. The title of his talk was “The role of technology, citizens and technizens in the sustainable city”. The deliberate hybrid term technizen signals his proposal to steer clear of simplistic technical or social “fix” approaches in the discourse around sustainable urbanism. Instead, Ralf argues for a “synchronisation” or “co-evolution” between social and technical change. The audience consisted of staff and final-year students of Bahçeşehir’s architecture programme, which offers a special focus on sustainable architecture and urbanism. Ralf followed an invitation of Prof. Bengü Uluengin, assistant dean of the faculty.
